The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) Houston District, launched an extensive effort to meld modern-day mobility with aesthetic principles and restore some of the area's natural beauty along Houston roadways. To enhance the visual experience for both the traveling public and the surrounding neighborhoods, TxDOT set out to develop a unified master plan. The result was the Green Ribbon Project, a new Corridor Aesthetic and Landscape master plan to be implemented along major Houston freeways, including on I-10 from the City of Katy to the interchange at I-610 as part of the Katy Freeway Reconstruction Program.
As a result of the Green Ribbon Report, a unique identifier was establish to create a recurring symbol along the corridor. The five point star was chosen as the symbol because of the universal appeal and its synonymous symbol of Texas. The star was incorporated into the retaining wall design along the freeway. |
