Landscape is defined as the improvement of a section of ground by contouring and planting trees, shrubs and grass. Landscaping is used to enhance the visual appearance of the freeway and its surroundings. The trees buffer roadway noise, reduce the glare from vehicles, help absorb the carbon dioxide, while releasing oxygen and lower temperatures up to 10 degrees. Some of the plantings to be used along the Katy Freeway Corridor include, but are not limited to: native pines, oaks, hollies, sweetgums, cypress, elms, maples, and sycamore.

  • The department is also committed to a reforesting program along the I-10. More than 75,000 trees will be planted within the I-10 corridor
