Contract B Final Build Out
underline image

The project will widen the mainlanes to 4 or 5 lanes in each direction and add a third continuous lane to the frontage roads. The diamond lane will be maintained and shoulders will be added on each side of it although its beginning and ending points will be moved about one mile to the East. A continuous auxiliary lane will be added on each side of the freeway. This lane will be part of the mainlanes for portions of the project over cross streets and part of the frontage roads between exit and entrance ramps. The eastbound frontage road will be straightened to remove the access roads from the interchanges at the intersections with Mason Road, Fry Road and Barker Cypress Road. These 3 cross roads will be lowered to ground level and the mainlanes will be elevated over these 3 roads as well as 3 new crossroads. The new crossings will be at N. Westgreen Blvd., S. Greenhouse Rd. and Park Ten Blvd. The existing access roads will be converted to 2-way local access roads. Both frontage roads will be widened at their approaches to the 3 major crossroads (Barker Cypress Rd, Fry Rd, and Mason Rd) to allow for turning lanes. U-turn lanes will be built on both sides of all 6 crossings.
